Below is a list of projects and initiatives happening at DDI.  This list changes as new projects begin and old projects close, so please check back often for updates and information regarding new programs. 

 

 

 

Project Title:

Michigan Family Support Initiative

Project Goals:

The Michigan Family Support Initiative will address specific policy areas to include:

  1. The development and implementation of public policy that sanctions the Family Support model
  2. Policy that prioritizes children within the DCH system to receive community residence options
  3. Policy that prioritizes community living and home ownership

 

The barriers that have created obstacles for families who are in the most need of supports and services will be addressed and rectified through intense individualized planning, local navigation training, individual and family monitoring, technical support and evaluation.

Project Title:

SEAM: Supporting Educational Achievement for Minorities

Project Goals:

The primary focus of SEAM is the inclusion of children from Southwest Detroit into the neighborhood schools as well as increased community participation.

Project Title:

Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council Postsecondary Education Project

Project Goals:

To assess the needs of students with intellectual disabilities regarding postsecondary education (PSE) in the state of Michigan.  Goals include:

  • The development of a memorandum of understanding between key stakeholders and agencies
  • The formation of a State Action Plan to address known issues with PSE
  • The completion of a needs asessment of stakeholders on their experiences with PSE in Michigan

Project Title:

Expanding Freedom to Ride: Measuring the Effectiveness of Michigan's Transportation Voucher Program

Project Goals:

To evaluate the effectiveness of the Transportation Voucher Program that was utilized by persons with disabilities in Michigan.

Project Title:

Aging Caregivers Training Project

Project Goals:

To provide training in the form of workshops, information and tools for adults with developmental disabilities and their families, especially those who are eligible for services and supports from their CMH but are not currently receiving services. Training will be conducted in six regions across the state with support provided by regional collaboratives. Each regional collaborative will establish and implement processes for the following areas:

  • Outreach and recruitment
  • Collection and dissemination of materials and project announcements

 Project Title:

Healthy Relationships Training for People with Disabilities

Project Goals:

The Healthy Relationships training is meant to assist people with disabilities in building strong, healthy relationships through training sessions for men and women.

Project Goals:

Provide access to high quality resources and information on community-based services and interventions for people with ASD and their families.

Project Title:

Violence Coalition

Project Goals:

  • To conduct cross-training for victim service organizations, governmental agencies, and nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations serving individuals with disabilities about risk reduction, intervention, prevention and the nature of DV/SA, dating violence, and stalking for disabled individuals.
  • To provide technical assistance to assist with modifications to existing policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure equal access to the services, programs, and activities of victim service organizations for disabled individuals.

Project Title:

Mt. Pleasant Center (MPC) Monitoring Project

Project Goals: 

The Mount Pleasant Monitoring (MPC) Project is designed to monitor the quality and the supports provided to individuals who formerly lived at Mount Pleasant Center who are now residing in the community.  Early findings of the MPC Monitoring Project indicate that the transitions to the community have been very positive.

Project Title:

S.A.F.E.: Support All Families in Emergencies

Project Goals:

The ultimate goal of the S.A.F.E. Project is to raise awareness and provide information regarding the need for increased emergency preparedness for individuals and families of persons with disabilities.  Another goal of S.A.F.E. is to inform emergency personnel and first responders in Wayne County about the special needs of persons with disabilities in the event of an emergency situation. These goals will be reached through a series of training events for families and emergency personnel.

Project Title:

Empowerment Education: Consumer-driven Training for Michigan’s Direct Support Professionals

Project Goals:

The Empowerment Education Project utilizes a train-the-trainer model to address the training needs of Direct Support Professionals (DSP) throughout the state of Michigan. A diverse array of training topics is used to provide DSP’s with a fresh perspective on everyday issues they may encounter including Person Centered Planning, Self-Determination, Conflict Resolution and Making Community Connections.

Project Title:

Did You Know? Families and Support Coordinators Project

Project Goals:

The goal of the Did You Know? Project is to inform and educate families and support coordinators about the Department of Community Health (DCH) policies, initiatives, promising practices and strategies for achieving desired services, supports and outcomes. The Project also aims to inform DCH workers about the needs of families and the obstacles they often face in attaining desired supports.

Independent Facilitation Training Project

Project Goals:

The goal of this training initiative is to train persons with disabilities and their family members to become independent facilitators for person-centered planning meetings.

Project Title:

Family Quality of Life Study

Project Goals:

Research study examining the quality of life of families of children with disabilities. Utilizing the Family Quality of Life (FQOL) survey instrument.

Project Title:

Michigan Alliance of Direct Support Professionals (MADSP)

Project Goals:

The goal of the MADSP is to facilitate a statewide coalition of direct support professionals to advance the field professionally by sponsoring annual DSP appreciation events, supporting training and scholarships, and offering technical assistance to groups that wish to develop their own chapters of the MADSP. Supports the mission of the National Alliance for DSP’s.

Project Title:

Michigan Partners for Freedom

Project Goals:

The primary goals of the MPF are to :
  • Uphold the principles of self-determination for all Michigan citizens: Freedom, Responsibility, Authority, Support and Confirmation.
  • Build statewide demand for self-determination by organizing local efforts in the community.
