Action Alert- Michigan Residents Can Take Action To Oppose the AHCA

From: Association of University Centers on Disabilities

It is critical that everyone continue to activate your networks to call Congress to oppose the AHCA. We are hearing that there is a potential Upton-Long amendment in the work to add $8 billion for high risk pools. This amendment does not fix the fundamental flaws with the legislation - including over $800 billion in cuts to Medicaid and (100 times more than Upton-Long may add for high risk pools) and the pools themselves will provide little protection for people with pre-existing conditions. Below are a few talking points about the new amendment, as well as a list of Representatives' positions. You can be connected directly with your representative's offices by calling 1-866-426-2631.

Talking points for today:

  1. Despite today's potential amendment, the AHCA still drops the coverage guarantee for people with pre-existing conditions (including people with disabilities), strips coverage from millions and drives up costs for millions more. $8 billion to high risk pools doesn't change that.
  2. The bill still has the provisions that will decimates Medicaid-more than $800 billion in cuts. That hurts seniors, people with disabilities and children like Jimmy Kimmel's son that he so eloquently spoke of just yesterday -- remember that half of the babies born in America are reimbursed through Medicaid.
  3. The Upton $8 billion is a non-solution-money thrown at "high risk pools" that experts on both sides of the aisle have clearly warned lead to higher costs, fewer benefits and waiting lists rationing care for those with pre-existing conditions
  4. The AHCA, including with these new amendments, will still harm millions and millions of people in America -- especially people with disabilities and seniors -- and breaks President's Trump's promise to cover everybody and protect people with pre-existing conditions.
  5. This isn't what people in America want. It is time for the GOP to drop the ACHA and move on. Please oppose the AHCA.

Please continue educating your members on the importance of affordable, accessible, and comprehensive healthcare for all as well as the misunderstanding about high risk pools.
