Research Support:

Administration on Developmental Disabilities/HHS

  • Developmental Disabilities Institute Core grant  - LeRoy (PI)
  • This grant creates Michigan’s university center of excellent on developmental disabilities.  The Institute provides education, community support, research, and information dissemination to individuals, families, and agencies throughout the State related to disability issues across the lifespan.
  • Role:  Institute Director and PI

Michigan Department of Health and  Human Services

  • Home and Community Based Services Rule Compliance Assessment - LeRoy(PI)
  • This grant assists the State in determining program compliance with the HCBS rule (Medicaid program) among service recipients with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their providers.
  • Role:  PI and Project design

OECD/Paris

  • TJ Alexander Fellowship Award - LeRoy (Fellow)
  • This grant is examining the access and performance of students with special educational needs in the PISA 2012 assessment of 15 year olds across the world.
  • Role:  Investigator and Fellow

Ethel & James Flinn Foundation

  • Implementation of a Diagnostic Method for Persons with Co-occurring Mental Retardation and Mental Illness
  • This grant tested a new methodology for identifying mental illness among adults with intellectual disabilities.  In addition, it examined the impact of a dual diagnosis on self-determination.
  • Role:  Project director and PI

Administration on Developmental Disabilities/HHS

  • Detroit 360 Family Support Planning and Implementation Project
  • These two grants used a three-phase needs assessment methodology to design and implement a family support program for low-income, minority families in Detroit who have children with developmental disabilities.
  • Role:  Program Developer, Evaluator

US Institute of Justice and Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Michigan

  • Domestic Abuse among Women with Physical Disabilities
  • This grant conducted a statewide study on the incidence of abuse among women with physical disabilities and the capacity of shelters to serve them. 
  • Role:  Co-PI

US Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs

  • The Demography of Inclusive Education
  • This grant examined the impact of student demographic characteristics on their access to, services from, and outcomes related to inclusive education at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Role:  Project Director and PI

Office of the President, WayneStateUniversity

  • Health, Health Care and Family Across the Lifespan
  • This grant supported 20 interdisciplinary pilot studies on health, health care and family across the lifespan.  Many of these studies resulted in externally funded national studies.
